The current Uganda portfolio comprises 33 coffees, structured across three programmes:
6 Commercial Arabica, 7 Commercial Robusta, and 20 Specialty coffees under the Darley Specialty Coffee Programme.
Uganda Portfolio Overview
Uganda offers a rare combination of scale, diversity, and origin depth, allowing buyers to source both volume-driven coffees and differentiated specialty selections within a single origin framework.
Portfolio spans Commercial Arabica, Commercial Robusta, and Specialty Coffee programmes, structured to support different buying needs — from long-term commercial contracts to specialty sourcing focused on processing discipline and repeatability.
Commercial Arabica
scalable washed and natural Arabica grades structured for continuity and contract supply
Commercial Robusta
mainstream and upgraded Robusta grades aligned to volume and specification requirements
Specialty Arabica
high-altitude Arabica programmes with differentiated processing frameworks
Each programme is curated and coordinated at origin in partnership with Darley, ensuring consistency, transparency, and clear alignment between quality expectations and commercial realities.
Commercial Coffee Programme — Arabica
Designed for roasters and blenders
The Uganda Commercial Arabica Programme is designed for roasters and blenders seeking reliable supply, consistent cup profiles, and scalable volumes.
Sourcing approach
Sourced across Uganda’s main Arabica-growing regions, the programme supports long-term commercial requirements rather than spot or one-off purchases.
Programme structure
Coffees within this programme are offered in washed and natural streams, structured across multiple commercial grades to accommodate different roasting applications and price points.
Intended use
The focus is on clean preparation, balanced profiles, and predictable performance in blends, private label, and everyday consumption.
Availability
Programme availability is supported by Uganda’s staggered harvest cycles, enabling continuity of supply and shipment planning across the year.
Commercial Coffee Programme — Robusta
Programme purpose
The Uganda Commercial Robusta Programme is designed for buyers seeking reliable volumes, consistent quality, and strong performance across espresso bases, blends, and industrial applications. As the birthplace of Robusta, Uganda offers scale and continuity that support long-term commercial sourcing.
Sourcing & structure
The programme covers a range of Robusta qualities and preparations, allowing buyers to align cup profile, extraction characteristics, and price point with specific use cases. Coffees are sourced through established aggregation and processing networks, with quality oversight applied at each stage.
Cup profile
Ugandan Robusta is recognized for its naturally sweet, full-bodied profile with low harshness, making it suitable for both standalone use and blending. The focus is on dependable performance, clean preparation, and repeatable outcomes in roasting.
Availability
Programme availability is supported by Uganda’s dual harvest cycles, enabling year-round supply and flexible shipment planning.
Specialty Coffee Programme
The Uganda Specialty Coffee Programme is offered under Darley’s Specialty Coffee Programme, representing a structured, producer-led approach to specialty coffee development in Eastern Uganda.
Programme Approach
Rather than one-off microlots, the programme is built around repeatable processing systems, controlled fermentation protocols, and documented post-harvest handling, allowing buyers to source differentiated cup profiles with transparency and confidence.
Producer Collaboration
Specialty coffees within this programme are developed in close collaboration with established producers in the Mount Elgon region, where altitude, processing capability, and quality discipline support consistent specialty-grade outcomes across harvest cycles.
Programme Focus
The focus is on processing integrity, traceability, and repeatability, enabling specialty roasters to engage with origin beyond isolated lots and build longer-term sourcing relationships.
Processing & Quality Framework
Across both commercial and specialty programmes, execution follows consistent standards:
Selective cherry harvesting
Defined fermentation parameters
Structured sun-drying protocols
Lot-level grading and separation
Export-ready preparation and documentation

Rainforest Alliance–certified supply may be available for selected commercial lots, subject to grade and availability, and confirmed during the contracting process.
Darley operates at origin as a producer partner, processor, and exporter, with hands-on involvement across post-harvest operations, quality control, and export preparation. This operational presence supports disciplined processing, reliable execution, and continuity across harvest cycles, aligning programme design with real-world delivery.
